PixelChefs Creator Spotlight
As part of our AR creator spotlight series, we reached out to Dylon at PixelChefs, a company that provides, “a set of niche, highly crafted skills to develop bespoke, interactive and shareable, virtual and in-person digital experiences.” He walked us through a day in the life of a creator, and he gave advice for those aspiring to enter the world of AR creation.
What does the typical day of a creator look like?
“A typical day consists of mostly meetings. Depending on what phase of any project we are in we could be conceptualizing or presenting. Working on prototypes or polishing an effect.
Processes can take days sometimes so we could also spend the day following up on effects in review.”
What is your favorite part of the creation process?
“The conceptualizing phase where you start building the rough idea of the filters. I also really enjoy when all the pieces get put together in SparkAR and it works perfectly. Always a great feeling!”
What are some challenges you face during the creation process?
“Increase in scope can be a challenge as SparkAR has limited space. Keeping a balance between an effect with lots of detail, and also keeping performance and device reach in mind.”
Do you have any advice for anyone looking to get started in AR creation?
“Familiarize yourself with 3D space in SparkAR and 3D software. Learn how 3D objects fit into real world space. Also learning tools like Photoshop can help with 2D effects, andgaming techniques can help with optimizing your 3D assets for any augmented reality platform.”
What are some benefits of being an AR creator?
“You get to work on amazing brands and brands that are willing to do cutting edge work!”
