Continuing with our creator spotlight series, we are highlighting Inmersys, a “multidisciplinary team, nerds of technology, art, and video games.” They seek to “disseminate immersive technologies by creating valuable experiences that generate impact for our different clients and users.” We spoke with Inmersys Director of Operations, Denise Velasco, for insight and advice for aspiring AR creators, and opened up about the challenges and benefits of being creators in today’s world.

What does the typical day of a creator look like?

“As a company that creates experiences in AR and VR, our daily work focuses on development, this is divided into different areas, from user experience design, and 3D modeling, to programming, this requires having a broad context of what the platforms allow us, in addition to continuing to research and test new technologies, which is our favorite part.”

What is your favorite part of the creation process?

“The development is divided into stages, from when the client arrives with a proposal and we support them in landing the idea with an objective and striking perspective, for this we have creative meetings, where the magic comes from and concepts to present, our UI/UX designers advise us and programming to be aware of what can be done and how the user will interpret it, I consider that one of the most important and favorite parts of the team is to see how these ideas come to life, from 3D models, animations and the interactions we generate in AR / VR. We also really enjoyed seeing users interacting with these technologies for the first time, it is very fun to see their surprised faces and how they recognize the elements.”

What are some challenges you face during the creation process?

“One of the main challenges is the reach of cellular devices, for example in Meta Spark some filters can only be seen on high-end cell phones, which allow interactions such as plane detection, and face, and hand detection, among others. We are faced with being able to cover all types of cell phones, to reach more users, without limiting the quality of the audiovisual experience.”

What are some benefits of being an AR creator?

“Being at the forefront of technology allows us to connect with brands and users who want to generate more memorable, meaningful, and eye-catching experiences. Personally, we really like to see how we are growing hand in hand, seeing more products, advertising campaigns, and companies that are optimistic about new technologies, changing the rhythm of audiovisual communication to which we are accustomed, also the fact that users are already relating and recognizing it a little more, being aware that they are experiencing mixed realities.”

How did you get started?

“Inmersys began developing immersive experiences in 2010, so we have had to see how they have evolved and how they have gradually become part of people’s daily lives. In the beginning, the company was only made up of the development team and where the crucial thing was that the experience worked, little by little we realized the importance of other profiles such as design, 3D art, and marketing to be able to take another leap there in the quality of what we offer. Now the team is made up of around 50 people.”

How do you see the future of AR evolving, and what role do you think AR creators will play in shaping that future?

“The role of augmented reality (AR) content creators in the future is both exciting and challenging. As we move into a more sophisticated technological era, AR creators have the opportunity and responsibility to transform the way we interact with the world around us. The challenge lies in finding innovative and creative ways to apply AR technology to solve real problems, improve everyday experiences, and foster meaningful connections between people and the environment around them. This implies the need to use creativity not only to create attractive content but also to maintain an ethical and moral conscience in the creation process.”

How do you approach designing and developing AR experiences for different industries and purposes, such as education, entertainment, or advertising?

“Understanding the essence of the client’s need and objective is essential. Through understanding, we can propose the best development alternative, so we immerse ourselves not only in the existing content that we want to communicate but also in the context involved around and where the development will live so that the solution really generates an impact. This allows us to generate projects for endless areas such as education, culture, training, etc.

Once the client’s needs and objectives are understood, the creative team identifies the critical points of interaction with AR that truly generate added value to the proposal. We focus on making the proposals transcend, one of our business values is: “Make the ordinary extraordinary.” This should apply to all projects regardless of the industry they are aimed at. Another of our pillar values is: “The magic is in the details”, so from planning, conceptualization to execution we always work with the utmost attention to detail to offer the best possible result while being fun and memorable.”

Can you walk us through the process of creating an AR experience, from concept to implementation?

“The development begins by defining an objective, being clear about what we want to communicate and what we want to make the user feel, being aware of the brand or product we are working with, highlighting its qualities and how it communicates with its consumers. From a creative meeting, the elements to be presented and the interactions are defined. It is essential that the development team is present at this stage since the creative and technical possibilities will be landed, by having a concrete idea and a strong concept in the next stage. is to develop a user experience flow, where the elements/arts of the filter and the user interaction are shown, that is, the step-by-step experience. Our next step is to model in 3D / animate or design the assets present in the filter while working with programming functionality tests. It is important that the 3D artist tests the models from the platform where they will be programmed so that the materials, models, and effects are ready and the programmer only worries about adding the functionalities and interactions with these assets. Having an already functional beta deliverable of the experience, testing is carried out, testing on different devices to visualize the scope and functionality.”

How do you ensure that your AR experience is user-friendly and accessible to a wide range of users, regardless of their technical proficiency?

“You should always have a reference, a filter or a similar idea, where we can identify the visual, interactive, and UI/UX design elements. We take this as a basis for development, with this same reference filter, we do tests with different users and devices. Additionally, it is advisable to use the instructions that Meta Spark gives by default, some are already assigned, for example, detecting an image, positioning an element, showing your face or hand… users are already accustomed to how these instructions are presented and their type. of language. Some filters require additional instructions or personalized instructions, with the aim of involving the user in the environment that is being created. These instructions can have a personalized design in a visual and written way, connecting even more with the interaction and taking the user step by step. passed.”

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest AR technology and trends, and incorporate them into your work?

“Social networks, LinkedIn, conversation with clients, specific search for solutions. When developing any project our first task is to carry out a detailed benchmark, categorizing certain critical points to cover for each development.”
